Crooks

What the hell is it with some people.

I woke up this morning, and looked out the kitchen window. Something didn't look right on my car, so I was staring at it for a couple minutes trying to figure out what. Eventually I realized that the passenger seat was leaned forward. A small bit more looking and I realized the passenger window was smashed out.

After going out to take a brief look around, it was obvious that the stereo and amps were gone. The passenger window was smashed, there was a deep gouge in the paint above the window. Glass bits were spread about the ground out to a yard in every direction away from the window, and there were piles on the passenger seat and floor inside. More gouges were found on the glove box, the dash board, the trim around the stereo, the inside panel of the door, and the seat itself was cut.

Once I tracked down the never-opened phonebook, I gave the local police a call. They said that an officer would call to take a telephone report. In the meantime, I found the receipts to the stolen gear. I got a call back from an officer maybe 40 minutes later. They asked the usual questions: where was it, when did it happen, did you see anything, what was damaged, what was stolen. I gave them the information, and they said they'd let me know if they found anything. It seemed a little strange that nobody came out to do any investigating or verification, but I guess that's how it works these days. I asked what the chances of recovery are, but it doesn't look good.

Armed with an instant number from the Waterloo Regional Police, it was time to call the good folks at State Farm to file a claim. My biggest concern was that I'd end up getting shafted on premiums for filing a claim - I was pleasantly surprised to find out that wouldn't be the case. They took down the rough details, and arranged for someone from claims to fill out the report. My local Toyota dealer body shop will be doing the fixin' to the car, and if they can source the parts State Farm will suggest local places to do the work. The downside - I didn't have additional coverage for the stereo, so I may have to kick in a few bucks of my own above my deductible in order to put it like it was.

Anyway, nuts to the worthless prat who figured they were entitled to my stereo.
