Got my car back from the collision center at Heffner Lexus Toyota. It's amazing what they can repair on the dash and door panel. I was sure that a repair job would be unsatisfactory, but it looks great. The cut in the seat isn't perfect, but I only notice it because I know it's there. And the gouge where the crooks tried to pry the window out from above the weatherstripping can't even be seen. I'm pretty happy with the results.
I zipped on over to Audiosource on Franklin in Cambridge to get an estimate for replacing the stereo gear that got swiped. They're the only folks nearby that deal with Memphis gear that I know of. The replacement amp is a tiny step down from what I had before, but it's something I'll be happy with. With any luck they'll be able to install the amp such that anyone breaking in in the future won't be able to filch it. The head unit will be a bit of an upgrade. The amp is on order, when it comes in the car is also getting a new alarm. Once the install is actually done I'll zip on over to my State Farm agent and get supplemental insurance for it.
No music for a week, but I sure do like having my car back. I missed real shifting and clutch.
The total bill for replacement and repairs resulting from the incident is right around $4300. I'm only on the hook for the deductible and supplemental insurance on the rental car. Even so, I wouldn't be sad to hear that the git that broke in OD'd on whatever he traded my gear for.
