R-Days 2008

Yamaha held R-Days on Saturday, Aug 23 this year. The event was very similar to last year. New this year, they had a couple of pre-production V-Max. That bike is a freakin beast of a machine. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Just holding the event makes it that much more likely that I'd seriously consider another Yamaha if I was looking for another bike. Unfortunately, the YZF600R I've got does all of the bikely things I could possibly ask of it.

They hold the event out at Shannonville Motorsport Park. One of the things Yamaha does for R-Days is have parade laps of the track. One of their riders leads, and another follows. Last year was the full track, this year it was just the "Nelson" track. Last year I went out with a slower group, and while it was fun, I wasn't particularly comfortable - I was still a little shaky from the lowside at the begining of the season, and I was also at the front of the group. This year, I was the last guest in the group, so looking ahead I could see 7 or 8 snapshots of where to be during the turns, and that following that path would work out. So last year, I didn't touch the outer inch and a half on either side of my rear tire. This year, about half an inch and the left, and a quarter of an inch on the right stayed untouched. It also has me considering FAST school.
